The Best Time to Play Paintball

By November 16, 2011 No Comments

What is the best time to play paintball? That depends on your preferences. For myself, summer is too hot, and winter is too cold.

The first time I played paintball was in the Summer, in Spain. It reached around 35oC. I didn’t know at the time that I had to put on a suit, so I thought, yes! What a great day to have a match. Oh, how wrong I was.

Don’t get me wrong, it was still an awesome day; I felt like a warrior with that gun in my hand, the power to shoot at people and get them out and win. However, the suit plus the heat were slowly killing me. I was lucky the place there had a restaurant where we could drink and eat, otherwise it could have been bad.

So I realized that Summer isn’t really the best time to play paintball. And I would say Winter is also not ideal. I’d rather sweat and die in the heat than freeze to death; I have a grudge against the cold. However, I do have to admit, that a game in the snow sounds really appealing, but only with nice warm clothes.

I think the best time to play is during Spring and Autumn. Why? Well the temperature for one. Temperatures are around 15-15oC at those times of the year, my favorite. Plus the weather in Spring is usually quite sunny, and I wouldn’t mind having a rainy game in Autumn, all the more fun.

I would say either April or September would be my picks, if I were to choose. However, there is always good weather to be found the year round. The most fun games are when it’s not too hot and not too cold.

However, I do have to say that playing in the extremes is also something you have to do; try your luck in the snow and in the extreme heat. Just remember to bring enough water, in both extremes. The heat will make you sweat, and the cold will use up energy to keep you warm (if the suit doesn’t keep you warm already). I have this amazing picture of a snow-covered field scattered with blue, red, yellow, green and pink paint.

Then choose if you’re morning or an evening person. Myself, I’m a late afternoon/early evening type of guy. I have the most energy towards the end of the day, so I’m pumped whenever I go for a match that’s at 3 or 4PM. Plus, if I do play in the summer, it’s not that hot anymore, and we can head straight for dinner after the game.

So the next time you go for a game, think to yourself whether you want to play in a comfortable temperature, or if you want to go to the extremes. I’m going to go for the extreme the next time, so I’ll let you know how that was when that’s done with.

Good luck!
